Welcome to Kisumu on beautiful Lake Victoria, and welcome to Okolo House!
Placed on a beach property on the Victoria lakefront in the secluded fishing village of Usoma across Kisumu Bay, Okolo House offers a perfect alternative for guests seeking an independent, secure and private solution to their accommodation needs in the heart of Western Kenya and the lake region.
Okolo House is an owner-operated, self-contained, fully furnished and well-appointed private residence offering 330 square metres of living space, including
- a Lakeview Master suite with ensuite bathroom and dressing room
- a Guest room with ensuite bathroom
- a Guest room with a separate, dedicated bathroom
- a large living room with fireplace, upholstered sofa seating, colour TV and a dining room table seating 6 persons
- a full American kitchen with handcrafted wooden cabinets, natural stone surfaces, 4-field gas range and oven, and stand-up refrigerator and freezer
- a small library with an assortment of English language fiction and current affairs titles
- 2 large living terraces facing Lake Victoria with spectacular all-day and sunset views.
The house is separated from the access road by a 1000 square metre front garden containing private drive, car parking space and our caretaker cottage. Our gardens are fully landscaped, featuring mature palm trees. Our property is walled, gated, floodlit at night and protected by our two family dogs.
Throughout your stay you will be hosted by our able manager Joseph, who lives on site permanently, as well as our house caretaker Teresa. We provide all lodging services, including cleaning, linen, laundry and domestic delivery services free of charge. While we do not expressly provide meals, our staff will be more than happy to prepare simple traditional Luo lakeside fare on request and against a market charge.
Kisumu, the third-largest city in Kenya, is a bustling commercial town with a relaxed and charming tropical flair, that is refreshingly removed from the constraints and congestion more readily associated with typical urban areas in the region. As the predominant commercial centre on the western lakeboard, Kisumu offers all day-to-day services, excellent tourism facilities, as well as the most friendly and outgoing people. The city centre hosts a variety of supermarkets and grocery shops providing for all culinary needs. The city market, with its colourful vegetable and fish stalls, is worth a particular visit. Our staff will be glad to accompany and expertly assist you on your shopping trips.
Along with restaurants and beach clubs to suit many tastes, the town is home to the Impala sanctuary, giving a glimpse of the spectacular fauna and flora for which East Africa is world-renowned. Kisumu’s 9-hole lakeside golf course is conveniently located 3 kilometres from Okolo House. Kisumu's Airport is a short 10-minute drive away and offers daily connections to Nairobi, as well as charters to holiday destinations in the region.
We, Ngeso Okolo and Claudia Ramge, would be pleased to open our home to you on your next visit to Western Kenya. For further information and advice in tailoring your stay, please do not hesitate to contact us.
