Nestled in 8 acres of forest and rolling gardens, Hearthwood is a small, private bed & breakfast that combines chic modern furnishings and rustic decor to provide the classic Vermont experience. Located only 8 miles from Burlington, 30-60 minutes from many top ski resorts, and a 10-minute drive to beaches and sunsets on Lake Champlain, Hearthwood offers convenient access to main attractions while being a stone's throw from historical Shelburne Village with its artisanal restaurants, quaint shops, charming vineyards, craft breweries and museums. Come visit and discover the magic of Hearthwood!
Situated on a tranquil road only 15 minutes from downtown Burlington and nestled in 8 acres of serene forest, our rustic farmhouse, Hearthwood, is designed to be like a charming boutique-style B&B. The house is split up with the guesthouse on one side and our family living separately on the other. The Forest Suite is one of our six elegant and fully private suites (each with its own private bathroom) available for guests to come to relax and rejuvenate. In addition to the suites, there is also a fully stocked gourmet guest kitchen kept filled with a wide variety of DIY breakfast fixings, a dining area, a laundry room with front loader washer and dryer, and a spacious living room for relaxing and dining. We also offer a large selection of indoor board games, outdoor sports games and even yoga mats upon request for your enjoyment while visiting. Guests also have access to our private forest with paths that meander through and expansive lawns with Adirondack chairs and a picnic table for enjoying your morning coffee or afternoon glass of wine. Our spacious suites are each newly renovated with high ceilings and serene forested views. Uniquely decorated with white shiplap, a blend of modern and antique furniture, they are designed to provide the experience of beauty, comfort and ease. Each has a deluxe pillow-top queen-sized bed, hand-scraped maple floors, comfortable arm chairs with throw blankets for journaling or curling up by the enormous picture windows, large closets, dark shades for sleeping in when you like, and tables for working or eating meals privately. They are furnished almost entirely with natural materials including soft cotton duvets, woven wool carpets, linen drapes and wooden hangers. They are also appointed with DirectTV, wireless internet (although not fast enough to stream movies), all linens, and towels.
The Forest Suite is decorated in whites, silver gray and forest greens and wraps you in immediate relaxation as you enter with a wall-to-wall window offering panoramic views of the surrounding yard and forest. It has its own private en suite bath classically decorated in white shiplap, subway tile and antique bronze fixtures.
Or feel free to check out any of our other five suites. These include:
The Lakeview Suite: Decorated in white, blue and gray, it has large, beautiful windows offering a tranquil view of the forest and the lake beyond. A crystal chandelier to add a touch of extra elegance. It has its own private en suite bath classically decorated in white shiplap, subway tile and antique bronze fixtures.
The Rustic Suite: Decorated in creams, deep reds, golds and blues, this south facing room is the brightest of our six suites with windows on both the south and west sides resulting in wonderful sun throughout the day that will make you want to curl up in front of the window and soak it all in. It has its own private en suite bath decorated in carerra marble-style tile and an antique cherry wood vanity.
The Farmhouse Suite: The most spacious of the six suites, it’s decorated in creamy whites and accents of natural earth colors. Being the only suite on the first floor, it is perfect for families with small children or those with physical conditions making it difficult to climb stairs. It has its own private bath located just across the hall with Italian ceramic marble and a massive shower with tumbled stone floor. (A baby tub and pack & play is available upon request for families with infants.)
The Garden Suite: Charm abounds in this room decorated with serene sea foam green walls, white shiplap and bright pops of color. Southeast facing, it gets heaps of morning sun and enjoys lovely views of the surrounding yard and forest. It has its own private en suite bath classically decorated in white shiplap, subway tile and antique bronze fixtures.
The Sunroom Suite: Although the smallest of the suites, we consider the Sunroom our crown jewel. With two entire walls of floor to ceiling windows overlooking the rolling lawns and forest, an antique carerra-marble topped dresser, and a wall of classic white shiplap, it will surround you with charm. Its private ensuite bathroom is done in sky blue with white porcelain fixtures.
Since each suite is fully private with its own bathroom, lounging chairs, wifi access, satellite television and table for working or dining, it's completely your choice whether to spend time on your own or hangout in the common areas meeting some of our other wonderful guests. Either way, we invite you to come and enjoy your time in Vermont with us here at Hearthwood for a relaxing and rejuvenating getaway.
Guests have access to their private suite and bathroom (note: the Zen's bathroom is a few steps down the hall) as well as all common areas of the guesthouse including the sunroom, laundry facilities, and full guest kitchen. They also have use of the expansive lawns and are free to wander the paths in our 8 acres of forest. A set of keys for both the guesthouse main door and private suite allows guests to enter on their own schedule. (Please note: Quiet hours are from 10pm-9am.)
We live on the premises in a completely separate part of the house and are available from 9am to 8pm for any questions, concerns or just to say hello. Occasionally, guests may see us around the property outdoors or in the guesthouse as we garden, tidy up or prepare rooms for incoming guests. Otherwise, we simply give them space to relax and enjoy. (After hours, we're available via phone or text message for emergencies or urgent issues. Each guest is given our cell phone number for this reason.)
Nestled on the border between the picturesque towns of Charlotte and Shelburne, Hearthwood is minutes away from almost anything you'll need. Visit the majestic Vanderbilt estate (Shelburne Farms), window shop in Shelburne Village, take a short hike up Mt. Philo with a picnic lunch and enjoy the panoramic views at the top, visit the breathtaking Charlotte Beach, find covered bridges, explore architecture and folk art at Shelburne Museum, or simply relax in our gardens. Your choices are limitless.
A car is definitely your best option for visiting us. However, Burlington has excellent public bus transportation, which extends out into the surrounding communities, and Hearthwood is only 2 miles from a public bus stop in Shelburne that provides transportation into Burlington. There is also an extensive network of bike lanes for those who prefer their transportation on two wheels. And as a last resort, there are also taxis available.
Please note that the water sulfur issues we used to have are now happily resolved with a brand new oxidation system! :)
